2B River Gravel is another popular material because, like 2B Limestone, this gradation has a wide variety of uses. The average size is 1/2″ – 1.5″ in diameter. Some common applications for 2B River Gravel are:

• French drain construction (2B is the standard size for french drains)
• Backfilling
• Concrete paving
• Base material for landscaping with decorative stones (to reduce overall cost)

Unlike limestone, which is crushed to size and angular in shape, river gravel is naturally sized and rounded from many years of erosion. The original source for gravel was river dredging, which was outlawed due to its environmental effects. River gravel is now obtained from old river banks, which is a much more environmentally friendly method.

Note:  While all of our gravels are “washed”, there may still be a light residue left on the stones, which is left over from the mining, screening, and transportation. Once the gravel is spread, the first rain/hosing will remove the residue and expose the natural colors.
